China Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship kicks off in XM

2022年全国健美健身锦标赛在厦举行

The local stop of the CBBA PRO kicked off last week in Xiamen. The event also served as a preliminary round for competitions on the national and global level for both university students and for professional bodybuilders and fitness athletes.

The China Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness sponsored the event. The provincial and Xiamen federations of bodybuilding and fitness organized the competition, which attracted nearly 500 participants from 43 teams in 133 cities across the country. Xiamen's delegation consisted of 23 members.

The championship covered disciplines such as classic bodybuilding, traditional bodybuilding, body fitness and bikini fitness.

Xiamen subway passengers receive plant seeds

Local commuters received a pack of plant seeds when they took a Subway Forest train last Thursday to commemorate the 25th annual World Car Free Day. Xiamen subway representatives announced that volunteers on nine Subway Forest trains on Line One, Line Two and Line Three distributed 1,000 packs of plant seeds to passengers. Officials said that the goal of the program was to raise environmental awareness and to encourage public transportation.

Sales jump for locally-grown herbaceous flowers

Representative from the Haicang's Dongfu sub-district announced that the sale of herbaceous flowers in the area rose significantly in advance of the National Day holiday. Dongfu-grown herbaceous flowers are popular decorations for city streets and scenic spots during the October holiday. Dongfu-grown herbaceous flowers account for more than half of the provincial's total.

Xiamen Gaoxin School officially opens

The Xiamen Gaoxin School officially welcomed its inaugural group of students. Located in the Cross-Strait Financial Center Area, the new public school will offer classes in the first through ninth grades. Founded by the Xiamen Municipal CPC Committee and the city of Xiamen, the school is geared toward the children of Xiamen high-tech talents and policy perferential treatment objects. The school's initial classes are restricted to students in the first and seventh grade.

XM targets average life expectancy of 81.63 in 2025

Local authorities recently issued a report detailing potential reforms to the area's medical and health systems. The average life expectancy for permanent residents of Xiamen jumped from 80.17 years in 2015 to 81.04 years in 2020.

The report predicts the average life expectancy in Xiamen will reach 81.63 years in 2025. The study also outlines a plan to strengthen regional medical centers through new construction and to improve medical and health care services.

Progress continues on 23 local housing resettlement projects

Local authorities reported last week that progress continues on 23 housing replacement projects. The new facilities will collectively accommodate more than 30,000 apartments. Foundation work began last year on a large facility on South/North, Hubin road.

Other projects include Jinlinwan Garden, a massive resettlement project in Huli that is being constructed in three phases. An additional 2,400 resettlement apartments in Huli opened this year in the Jinlinwan Garden B and Meilun Garden apartment complexes.

The initial phases of both the Zhongzhainanyuan and Gaolin housing complexes are also slated to open this year.

XM's BRICS import-export value tops 10B yuan in August

Local Customs officials announced recently that Xiamen's monthly import-export value to BRICS countries broke a record of 10 billion yuan in the month of August, totaling 11.5 billion yuan, up 56.3 percent year-on-year.

Exports jumped 3.1 billion yuan, up 50.9 percent, while imports topped 8.4 billion yuan, up 58.4 percent. From January to August this year, Xiamen's total imports and exports to other BRICS countries amounted to 59.3 billion yuan, up 26.2 percent year on year. The BRICS total accounted for 9.8 percent of Xiamen's total import-export value. Imports to and exports from Russia, South Africa and Brazil continued to show a steady increase.

Xiamen's state-owned enterprises accounted for 56.9 percent of all imports and exports. Major categories of imports included commodities such as metal ores and ore sand, agricultural products, coal and lignite.

Maluan Bay Hospital set to open for trial operations

Maluan Bay Hospital officials said recently that the new facility is scheduled to finish acceptance checks by the end of November and will open for trial operations by the end of this year. The hospital is officially deemed a key project for both Xiamen and Fujian.

Situated in the village of Dongyao in the west of Maluan Bay New Town, the grade-three hospital will cover more than 100,000 square meters and offer a total of 1,500 beds. The hospital's first phase includes an initial 1,000 beds.

Xiamen issues smart parking plan

The city of Xiamen recently released a development plan for the city's parking that includes a focus on new technologies such as big data and the internet of things. The plans include the collection of data at municipal parking lots and the rollout of an open platform for smart parking data that will serve as the foundation for a suite of parking application services.

The city's parking platform is expected to debut next month and will collect data from a limited number of locations through the end of the year. The program is slated to spread to all of the city's parking lots by the end of 2023. The parking services include the provision of real-time data to the general public.

XM exceeds projections for provincial key projects under construction

Local authorities reported last that the planned investment in the first eight months of the year for 125 provincial key projects under construction in Xiamen stood at 49.6 billion yuan. In the year through August, actual investment reached 62.7 billion yuan, representing 126 percent of the original projection for the period. The actual total comprised more than 85.8 percent of the annual planned investment.

New passenger terminal slated for Tongan bay

Representatives of the city's Resources and Planning Bureau recently announced that plans for the Meifeng passenger tourism terminal will be open for public comment through October 14. The proposed facility in Tongan will be bounded by the Binhai tourist road. Officials said that the passenger terminal will be an important part of the regional passenger transport network.

Multiple XM companies win provincial patent awards

Companies from Xiamen won about half of the major prizes in the province's recent Fujian Patent Awards. Of the 10 projects recommended by Xiamen Administration for Market Regulation (Intellectual Property Administration), a pair of local projects claimed two of the competition's three top prizes. An additional five local projects claimed half of the competition's second prizes.
